In July of 2008, at a summer camp in Snowshoe, WV, with Liberty Baptist Church, I heard God clearly say to me, “Jacob, I want you to be a student pastor.” It was probably the scariest thing I had ever experienced, yet the most peaceful and reassuring thing, because I knew that it really was God speaking to me.
Since then, I’ve had the privilege of serving as a member of the LSM student band, prayer leader on my dorm hall at Liberty University, student band mentor, College & Young Adults ministry worship coordinator (as an intern), team member in launching a student ministry (as a volunteer), high school ministry intern, and now a student pastor.
God has blown my mind with how wonderfully gracious and loving He is toward this dirty rotten sinner. He’s let me do some ridiculously awesome things that I never would’ve imagined that I would’ve gotten to do.
One of those things is now getting to launch and lead the student ministry at Next Level Church, and I am so incredibly excited!
I’ve had lots of questions about what we’re doing, so I wanted to take the time to give a small description of what we’ll be doing.
- Everything (for now) will happen on Wednesday nights. Wednesday nights will have all three major components for the ministry: worship, large group teaching, and small group time.
- During worship, we’ll sing a few songs to start out the night in order to prepare for what God wants to do during the night.
- During large group teaching, I’ll have the opportunity to crack open God’s word, explain what it means, and how we can apply it to our lives.
- During small group time, students will go into groups based on gender and whether they are in high school or middle school, where they will discuss what we talked about during the large group teaching time using sermon-based curriculum.
That’s the essential details of what we’ll be doing. If you have any more questions, I’d love to answer them! Feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org!
There are two dates that are really important for our student ministry, and they’re coming up really quick.
February 22nd (THIS SUNDAY), right after church in our large group room until 1:30pm, we’ll have a vision and training meeting, which will also serve as an interest meeting for those who want to help with the ministry. We will get you plugged in in some way, shape, or form, so if you’re interested in helping somehow, I’d love to see you there.
Then, February 25th (NEXT WEDNESDAY) at 7:00pm, we kick off our student ministry service. This is where the rubber meets the road, and we start this journey of helping our students love Jesus, love people, and make a difference.
Parents, I’d love to see your students next Wednesday, and you after church Sunday. Students, I want to see you next Wednesday!
